The “Law of attraction” is very important in the realm of self-help and personal development. According to this concept, positive or negative thoughts and emotions can attract positive or negative outcomes in a person’s life. While this idea is popular in self-help literature, it is essential to clarify that it is not a scientifically proven principle, but rather a belief or philosophy.
The law of attraction suggests that individuals can manifest their desires and goals through positive thinking, visualization, and maintaining a positive emotional state. This positive energy is believed to resonate with the universe, causing it to respond by bringing about positive circumstances and events in one’s life.
As per Indian perspective and scriptures a similar sentiment is reflected in a word “तथा अस्थु” (Tathā asthu). It is a phrase in Sanskrit that is often used to express agreement or confirmation. It can be translated as “So be it” or “Let it be so.” This phrase is commonly used at the end of prayers or invocations in Indian traditions to signify acceptance of a wish, request, or blessing. It reflects a sense of surrender and acknowledgment that whatever has been asked for or prayed for is accepted and affirmed.
In Sikh scriptures it is written that whatever you ask the Lord (Universe) the same is granted to you.
Jo māgėh ṯẖākur apune ṯe so▫ī so▫ī ḏevai.
Whatever I ask for from my Lord and Master, he gives that to me. (Ang/Page 681 of Shri Guru Granth Sahib).
Conversely, negative thoughts, emotions, lack of confidence, apprehensions, doubts and fear are said to attract undesirable outcomes, leading to a cycle of negativity and hardship. This aspect of the law of attraction emphasizes the importance of maintaining a positive mindset and focusing on optimistic thoughts and intentions.
While the law of attraction lacks empirical scientific evidence, there are psychological aspects that can be considered. For instance, maintaining a positive attitude and optimistic outlook can influence a person’s behavior, decision-making, and interpersonal interactions. This, in turn, may lead to increased confidence, perseverance, and a more proactive approach to achieving goals, which can positively impact outcomes.
It is important to remember that life is complex, and many factors contribute to our experiences and outcomes however the positive thinking may help in achieving success or favourable results in every situation.
In summary, the law of attraction is a belief system that emphasizes the power of positive thinking and intentions. This law is further supplemented and supported by Indian scriptures.
