Clever tricks and planning won’t help you. A perspective from Sikh scriptures.

While listening to Gurbani today morning, I was impressed by a very sober thought from one of the verse from Japuji Sahib ( Sikh’s morning recitation prayer ). We see many people who with their clever scheming accumulate lot of wealth by any means fair or foul. After their demise it is seen that their empire falls like nine pins.

This verse from Gurbani, Japuji Sahib at Ang 1 of Shri Guru Granth Sahib reads as under;

“Sahas si-aanpaa lakh hove ta ik na chalai naal”. This verse from Japuji Sahib emphasizes the fleeting nature of worldly pursuits and the importance of focusing on spiritual goals. The line “sahas si-aanpaa lakh hohi ta ik na chalai naal” translates to “Hundreds of thousands of clever tricks, but not even one of them will go along with you in the end.”

In other words, the verse is suggesting that despite all the clever strategies, plans, and material possessions that one may accumulate in life, none of them will accompany a person beyond this life. They will all be left behind when we depart from this world.

Instead, the verse encourages us to focus on our spiritual journey and strive for things that have lasting value. By doing so, we can attain a sense of inner peace and contentment that will stay with us even after our physical body is gone.

Overall, this verse reminds us that the true meaning and purpose of life lie beyond material possessions and worldly pursuits, and encourages us to prioritize our spiritual journey over the transitory pleasures of this world.
