Social media is a double-edged weapon, akin to a knife in the hands of a surgeon or in the hands of a robber. It possesses the power to heal, guide, and enhance our lives when used with decent thoughts and provoking messages written in proper context. However, it also has the potential to kill, filling minds with poison and damaging society through cheap, trashy, and distorted messages.
The lack of worthwhile regulation on how social media is manipulated exacerbates these issues. Existing regulations are sketchy at best, and individuals often find ways to circumvent them, primarily to increase their circulation. A simple click on a misleading headline can garner maximum readers, driven by the lure of monetization. This pursuit for profit blinds many to the damage they are inflicting on society.
Responsible use of social media is crucial. Accurate reporting and the spread of good thoughts must be prioritized. In contrast, evil, distorted, and biased messages corrupt the minds of both the young and old alike. Whether it’s Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, or any other platform, the trend of making money from media, regardless of its consequences, is frightening.
It’s imperative that regulatory bodies wake up and address this issue. As responsible global citizens, we must also strive to use social media to spread messages of goodness and purity. By doing so, we can make the world a better place to live.
