It happened with me today and here is a humorous story about forgetfulness and its cost:
I’m not sure what it is about getting older, but it seems like my memory is getting worse and worse. Just the other day, I had an appointment at the hospital for my neck cervical problem. I had important investigations like X-ray and MRI done, and I had to show them to the orthopaedic specialist.
My residence is about 35 kilometers one way from the hospital, so I took my driver along as my neck condition won’t allow me to drive myself properly. On reaching the hospital, I realized that I had forgotten my X-ray and MRI papers! I told my driver to drive back home and pick up the papers, while I waited for my turn to see the doctor.
He sped quickly, and on the way, he got a ticket for speeding, which cost me 1000 bucks. In the meantime, my turn came and I had to apologize to the doctor for postponing the time of my appointment since my papers were being fetched. The specialist understood and accommodated me after an hour’s slot.
My driver returned with the documents and the challan for overspeeding for a fine of Rs 1000. The petrol cost for two trips, the fine for overspeeding, and spending the whole day till lunch time at the hospital was the reward of my forgetfulness.
Anyway, the nice doctor saw me and gave me medicine and advice. We took 6 hours and triple the expenditure for a one-hour job. I wish I could control my forgetfulness. What else can one expect at the age of 72?
I hope you enjoyed this humorous story about forgetfulness and its cost. As the saying goes, “Age is not an excuse for forgetfulness.” But it can be a funny excuse!
