A Day in the Life of a Retired Senior Citizen.

Life is so beautiful despite it’s challenges, situations, ups and downs. I am 72 years old and my wife is 71. We are fairly healthy, of course, we do confront age related illnesses like hypertension, diabetes, joint pains, forgetfulness so on and so forth. Yet we carry on with our day to day transactions.

Today we went for our eye’s check up at the Command Hospital. Our two kids are in USA and third one at Mumbai. So we have to fend for our selves. Before going to hospital we do our morning walk. I find daily medicines for self and wife. Mind you while I have good knowledge of medicines my wife has very less idea. So I count tablets for her every diseases and make her eat these. I think this is also a form of love in old age . I inform the housemaids to come for cleaning job after we come back from the hospital. In hospital we take considerable time due to excess crowd and various tests. There I meet a lady of 76 years who has come all alone for her tests. I ask her as to why her kids are not accompanying her. She tells me that her kids are settled in Singapore and her husband aged 81 years is not keeping quite well. So she has hired a driver for the hospital visit. She has no complaint about her kids. She tells me that for the sake of their career they have gone abroad and being sensible parents she does not want to disturb them. I correlate her situation with mine and find a similar pattern. The best thing that you can do for your kids is to keep yourself physically fit as long as you can and not bother them. I return home at 3 PM, by now all the maids have gone . Anyway we somehow manage cleaning of the house and some cooking. Evening comes and I find my neighbour saying hello to me. We have drinks together. Threrafter he goes away. Me and my wife put on good music and videos from YouTube on TV and feel like a king and queen. We have our dinner and I find night medicines for my wife and self. Thereafter we try to sleep and praise the Lord. Soon we shall be dead to the world and hope to take rebirth next morning. Life is indeed wonderful.

Guchi.
