The happiness that you feel at your own home is not available whether you travel East or West.
This is a famous couplet in Punjabi, which means “The comfort and contentment of Chhajju’s modest Home’s Balcony cannot be found even in Balkh or Bukhara.”
This couplet highlights the idea that true happiness and contentment can be found only at your own home, even though the home may be very ordinary. One may travel around the Globe but the happiness and freedom one gets at his own place is unparalleled. The reference to Balkh and Bukhara, which were important cities in medieval Central Asia, suggests that even the most magnificent and wealthy places cannot compare to the peace and tranquility of one’s own humble abode.
Overall, the couplet reminds us to appreciate the humble and small things in life which you own and find joy in simplicity.
