There is an ancient Indian story which described that a King loved a parrot so much that he could not live without seeing his parrot. It could be said that King’s life was in the parrot. One day the parrot fell sick and soon thereafter died. The king also fell sick and despite medical treatment by his royal court physicians his condition kept on deteriorating and eventually he too passed away.
Of course my attachment with my Apple Watch does not fall under such a category, though I depend on it heavily in regulating my daily routine and physical health. The Apple Watch starts its job moment I am out for morning walk. I set it up for recording my exercise and other parameters like calories burnt, heart rate, blood pressure, mileage walked etc. I keenly watch the statistics on my Apple Watch like maximum number of exercise days and weeks, mileage walked in the last four years that I have been wearing the Watch, number of minutes and hours exercised during a day, week and in a particular month. Whenever I fall short of my exercise milestones, the Watch keeps reminding me till I complete the same. Sometimes when I get tired of a particular Watch face, I change to something novel and different. If worn at night time, it even tells me the number of hours that I sleep and variety/ type of sleep like Deep sleep, Light sleep, Disturbed sleep. Apple Watch also transfers my physical data to my IPhone for records and posterity.
Couple of times I forget to charge my Apple Watch and thus it gets switched off and therefore does not record my physical activity. That day I feel very deficient and after charging the Watch, I again go for walk again so as to complete my daily exercise and get it recorded in the Apple Watch.
I have put aside all my old mechanical watches which were made in Switzerland. There are lying in my house safe as Antique pieces as I only wear Apple Watch. In fact I have got addicted to my Apple Watch. I have my exercise records for the last four years like how many weeks continuously walking and exercises, Medals/ Awards won ( Apple Watch Awards) , total mileage done etc. As a rough estimate in last 4 years I have walked around 10000 Kms ( Approx distance between Delhi and New York) averaging about 2500 Kms an year.
Apple Watch is here to stay as newer and newer models appear every year. The latest one even records ECG and tells me about my cardiac condition. What would happen if the Apple Watch disappears, I shudder to think, I think my condition will be like that of a King whose life was in his parrot.
Anyway the Life goes on and so is the Apple Watch.
Guchi.
