Today is the first day of Indian month Magha. It is also know as Makar Sankrati.
As per the Indian traditions, people on this day take dip in Holy rivers. The month signifies start of end of chilly winters and onset of better weather. People visit religious places to celebrate the day. They prepare their traditional dishes and eat.
This day is also considered as a day where people need to shun laziness and be up and about despite a very cold weather.
